BitDegree wins World Summit Awards education prize.

Time to celebrate! Counting the last days in 2019, United Nations World Summit Awards 2019 (WSA2019) has selected BitDegree online education platform as a winner. We’re among the Top 5 Learning & Education digital solutions for sustainable development. It’s an important achievement for us showing that innovation-minded authorities support the ways BitDegree is solving the issues in global education. BitDegree will participate and accept the award in WSA Global Congress in March 2020. Yay!

What is WSA?

WSA is a global United Nations initiative. Since 2003, it observes and evaluates a global specter of content-driven digital solutions in line with achieving UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Examples of such solutions range from VR and 3D Printing aiming to preserve world heritage sites to braille wearables; from AI and drones that monitor buildings to a behavior-changing platform. The unique content of those solutions make the selected winners exceptional. This year, the international WSA Jury selected 40 projects from 430 nominations. Winners come from 182 participating countries. They’ve hand-picked the best digital innovations that solve the challenges in the 21st century.

Why does that matter to us?

BitDegree’s mission is to revolutionize education with our smart, innovative digital solution. Our technology contributes to achieving the United Nations’ SDG “Quality education.” We uninterruptedly put effort into making the learning process more engaging through gamification, creating links between employers and potential workers, and providing students with a chance to earn while they learn. Winning the award gives us opportunities to bring together an even broader network of like-minded organizations and individuals and make an impact for better education in the future.

What problem is BitDegree’s winning solution aimed at?

Today, there’s a lack of professionals with digital skills. The gap between supply and demand of such workforce is widening on a global scale. The World Economic Forum estimates that by 2022, robots and machines will replace 75 million job positions in the world. In the same period, 133 million new roles may emerge 30% of which will be unfilled — roles that will need new digital skills. While universities provide all-round education, specific skills must be acquired faster. Online training has the potential to re-skill people at scale if it solves the core issues it’s facing today. We’re talking about low student engagement and motivation. These are the pains that BitDegree is addressing with its online platform.

Feeling even more empowered!

Online training is flexible enough to bring innovation into education much faster than the traditional one. We appreciate the trust shown by the WSA Jury. BitDegree will be happy to turn it into real connections with people who have great ideas towards shaping the future of global education. To the Moon!
